Eco-Tourism - MKURU CAMEL SAFARI PROGRAM
Marangu Usambara Ng'eresi Mkuru Northern Pare Mulala Mto Wa Mbu Historical Site

Tanzania is also a country well blessed with fascinating rural areas where you can experience the real Afrikan life with its various cultural diversities while enjoying the beautiful scenery of green mountains and wide plains. The core idea of this program is to empower local our men and women to organize tour in the area where they live, showing tourists various facets of their daily life and culture.

On the North side of the Mount Meru, not far from the irrigated fields of Ngarenanyuki and the Momela gate of Arusha National Parks, there lies the village of Mkuru whose habitants are the Maasai families lived in the small traditional bomas scattered throughout the area.

From a distance the area can easily be recognized by the remarkable shape of Ol Doinyo Langaree (which means "The Mountain of Water " in Maasai tongue) a small mountain that looks like a pyramid.

Since the introduction of camels in Tanzania in the early nineties, Mkuru has become one of the centres for camel promotion in the country.

A camel safari between Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru plains and Lake Natron while enjoying the friendly behaviour of the “sheep of the desert” will take you to:

•  A visit to the camel camp at the foot of Mount Meru.

•  A thorough explanation on the way the camels are kept in the semi-arid plains.

•  A camel safari varying in the length from a half a day to one week.

•  Bird watching walks in the plains around Mkuru.

•  A climb up Ol Doinyo Landaree, the pyramid shaped mountain.

•  A view into the culture and daily of the Maasai.

•  A drink of a delicious cup of camel's milk.

Touring at Mkuru village can range from a day to number of days.
